Alberto Zaffaroni is an Associate at CEG Europe, based in the Milan office. He has worked on several projects involving antitrust damages, public antitrust enforcement and regulatory matters. He has provided economic advice on a wide range of sectors including food and non- food retailing, automotive, energy markets, media and communications, packaging and biotechnology.

At CEG, Alberto has assisted on modelling overcharges and supporting settlements of damage claims in cartel follow-ons relating to consumer goods (for a client active in major European markets).

He has also recently contributed to the analysis of market trends and price developments for a leading player in the provision of long term car rental services in Italy. The work was carried out in preparation to the submission of a report and hearings before the Italian Competition Authority in an Art 101 investigation of information exchanges. Based on evidence submitted the ICA concluded competition law was not infringed by the client and its competitors.

Prior to joining CEG Alberto focussed on competition matters in a Brussels based consultancy and, as a trainee, on mergers in Manufacturing and Agriculture of DG Comp (Unit E4 Basic industries).

Alberto holds an MSc and BA, both awarded with Summa cum laude honours, in Economic and Social Sciences from Bocconi University (Milan, Italy). He focused his studies on econometrics, industrial and energy economics. In his Master’s thesis he analysed the efficiency of gas storage operators in Europe using econometric methods.

He was a visiting student at the University College of Dublin and Boston University. During his postgraduate studies, he was also a Research Assistant of Professor Chiara Fumagalli at Bocconi University.

He is fluent in Italian, English and has a working knowledge of French.
