CEG’s chemicals team (Roger Newenham and Will Zhao) win a major chemicals strategy project in Canada

CEG has been retained by Alberta’s Industrial Heartland Association (AIHA) to perform an assignment which is snappily titled “Value-Added Opportunities for Existing Petrochemical Production and Downstream Value Extension in Alberta’s Industrial Heartland”. In essence it will consider potential opportunities for five key products which are, or are about to be, produced in the Greater Edmonton area of Canada. The majority (polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene glycol, styrene and urea) are or will be exported outside the region. We believe that there may be local investment prospects in plastic film production, especially for agricultural use. In addition, we will draw lessons from other geographies (Singapore, Saudi Arabia, etc.) to identify successful strategies to encourage downstream development and any natural limits to downstream developments.
