Josep Peya is an Associate Director at CEG, based in Barcelona.
Josep specialises in the application of economic analysis to the study of competition policy, including the assessment of market definition, the competitive impact of mergers, anticompetitive practices, and damages estimations. He has provided advice in a wide range of industries, including energy, telecoms, financial services, shipbuilding, sports retail, biotechnology, airport handling services, heavy truck manufacturing, or sports booking.
Josep has advised clients in cases in front of the European Commission, national authorities, national courts, and the European Court of Justice. He specializes in the application of economic theory and analyses in the context of competition investigations and litigations, including mergers, cases of abuse of dominance, anticompetitive practices, or damages estimation. His case experience includes several high-profile cases, such as the European Commission’s Phase II investigations in the E.On/Innogy merger, or the litigation in the Competition Appeal Tribunal in the case of heavy truck manufacturers.
Josep holds a Master in Competition and Market Regulation from Barcelona GSE, Bachelor degrees in Economics and Law from University Pompeu Fabra, and a Postgraduate in EU Competition Law from King’s College. He is a qualified lawyer in Spain.

Josep has been involved in several competition cases before the European Commission as well as national competition authorities and tribunals. He has worked on mergers in front of the European Comission (among others, the Phase 2 investigations in a telecom merger, Fincantieri / Chantiers de l’Atlantique and E.On / Innogy), as well as litigations in the Competition Appeal Tribunal (heavy truck manufacturers, TV and computer monitor tubes, sports betting data).
